Introduction to semester project

The visit to the ICA was informative as well as enlightning. I wouldn't say that I necessarily came away from the visit knowing exactly what I was going to do. I already had an idea as to what I wanted to work on this semeter and how I wanted to utilize the time I would spend in this class. I am truly interested in society. How our world works and what we do as human beings to create the world around us. Some of us our lucky enough to be born in a free society, to have clothing on our backs, to sleep not only with a blanket and pillow at night but to actually have a bed that you don't share with 6 of your siblings sleeping head to toe. In this western society and culture we are afforded many luxuries, such that we don't even realize what we have. As an artist an someone that is going into the education field I find it my calling to inform people of what is going on around us. Not everyone is able to visit countries that live differently from us but we can educate people to have a greater understanding. Through my art work this semester I would love to educate the class and those that look at my work to realize what we are facing over in Africa with this deadly disease AID's. We are loosing a generation of young people to a disease that is misunderstood. I want to compel people to not just think of them as statistics but as real human beings, just like you and me. The only exception to this is that they weren't afforded the same luxury as you and I. We do not choose where we are born it is all in the hands of fate-so why am I any better than those less fortunate? Is it our civil duty to help those less fortunate? I want the viewer to be compelled to pose this same question for themself.
